The end of each season always comes around too fast. This year was no different when we closed on the 4th of November, and so it is the end of our 47th season.
Hendra has been family run since 1972, and the same families are still involved in the day-to-day running of Hendra and live on the Park. We have all loved meeting you on your holidays this year and hope that you have felt at home at Hendra with us. We also hope that you have liked the changes that we have made to the Park this year. Changes in 2019
This year we have welcomed new changes at Hendra, with our brand-new toilets in The Venue and extended arcade area. These changes have been very well-received by guests. We have also landscaped the old shop area, and in the peak times we had The Deck Bar; this area has become a great place to relax in the evenings with a refreshing drink, whilst the children play in the play park, and there are live acoustic acts in Mario’s in the summer holiday evenings. The Deck Bar is close to the Fish and Chip Shop and Mario’s, so you enjoy some alfresco food too!
Our caravan fleet was updated with the new classic range of caravan, the Mawgan. Not forgetting, the new Jolly Henry – our awesome pirate galleon play ship! Kids have absolutely loved this, along with Henry and Henrietta. It is the perfect place for kids to burn some energy.
Looking back at another fantastic season
The season always kicks off with Easter fun and activities, and this year was no different, with Easter egg hunts around the outside pool, face-painting and children’s entertainment – lots of fun was had. Easter was lovely and hot too…something we are missing now it is November!
May and June saw some nice weather, with lots of great activities and additional entertainment on for the summer holidays, with the return of favourite acts and activities such as Titan the Robot, the pantomime (Dick Whittington this year) and Forest School – where you can learn all about building dens, foraging and making a camp fire.
September saw the return of two festivals: The Cornish Bluegrass Festival, a celebration of American Roots music, and the Newquay Beer Festival, which offered over 50 beers, 50 ciders, and live music.
October has seen lots of Halloween fun; it is always a popular time of year as you all love dressing up, the decorations, pumpkin carving and, most of all, the spooky Hendra ghost train!
Awards
We have acquired a few shiny accessories this year! We have kept our Visit England GOLD 5 Star ‘exceptional’ quality grading and the new AA PLATINUM ‘elite park’ 5 Pennant rating – you can’t get better than that! In October we won the South West in Bloom Gold for the Business Leisure and Tourism Category. Most recently, we were voted the Best Family Holiday/Break in Cornwall by the readers of Primary Times, Cornwall, and we got our Award Plaque from Premier Parks, which means we meet or exceed high standards. Every one at Hendra is so chuffed to have received them all.
Looking ahead to 2020
We are edging closer to the big 5 0, and 2020 will be our 48th season! Like every winter, we already have started thinking about what to change and improve upon for next year. In fact, we have started replacing Gwithian, Crantocks, and Harlyns with new premium Godrevy and Mawgan now! The whole fleet will be refurbished. Our caravans are now an average age of 2.35 years old!
We are removing the Terrace Bar toilets to create more seating in the Terrace. Keep looking at our blog and social media channels for all the latest news on what we are up to this winter.
