And what a season we had – we loved 2023! It has been a joyous and fun season, full of amazing events, awards, and our returning and new guests have made it an incredible seven months!
Easter at Hendra
We always spring into the season, opening the doors just before Easter. We love every occasion and like to give guests the opportunity to make lots of Hendra memories. Easter is particularly egg-cellent, with Easter egg hunts, crafts and games.
We were lucky to finally get some beautiful weather at the end of April, and enjoyed the park blooming.
We also had the fabulous news that we were finalists in the Visit England Awards for Excellence.
In May we celebrated the King’s Coronation, with Pimms and bunting,
of course!
We also started our popular Thursday Night Quiz, in our newly refurbished for 2023, Terrace Bar and Restaurant.
It was also great to welcome back our famous Welcome Sign, which got replaced.
Summertime at Hendra
Long summer evenings, beautiful sunshine, the outdoor pool opening – ah those days seem like a lifetime away now it is November! But they did happened not too long ago and will come round again.
Our Managing Director, Jon Hyatt, and Park Manager, Chris North, travelled up to London to attend the Visit England Awards for Excellence. We came home with Bronze in the Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year category, after winning the Gold in the South West Tourism Awards for the same category.
Our summertime planting begun and the park was at its most spectacular for the summer months, full of beautiful blooms, and greenery.
With summer underway, we were happy to have lots of brilliant activities for guests to enjoy, including
the Professor’s Puzzle, a code cracking adventure that takes you all over the park! We also had brand new futuristic activity, Western themed Frontier City activity and Little Chef.
Making sustainable changes is important to us, while maintaining or enhancing the guest experience. We were happy to get our bespoke Hendra belly boards, which are available to hire, to help cut down on plastic waste.
We also swapped more of our park vehicles for electric vehicles, making over half of the site vehicles electric.
We also got some new Hendra Merch, with our Henry the Hippo towels!
Into Autumn!
September is always a lovely month here in Cornwall. We had some super events of too. The Dino Show
returned for a second year, held in The Venue, for a show with life-like dinosaurs, with dino-facts, the chance to pet a dinosaur, dino crafts, and lots of roarsome fun!
Followed by the Newquay Beer Festival, a popular event held at Hendra, put on by the Newquay Lions. This charity Festival is a firm favourite for locals, and guests too. It raised thousands of pounds for local charities.
Into October we started the month with the fabulous news that we won another shiny award, the Bruford Cup, for the best non-municipal display in the Southwest! A wonderful accolade for the wonderful Grounds Team!
Along with the Beer Festival in September, we have been the venue for two other awesome events in October and November too. Oktoberfest took place on the last weekend of October, with brockwurst, steins of beer and leder hosen! Complete with Oompah bands! As well as the Sparks Firework Festival, after the park closed.
On site we had our super scary and fang-tastically fun Halloween half-term! With our Hendra Land Train getting a ghoulish makeover, and travelling through the darkness, where ghosts, monsters, and lots of horrors lurk!
There was also our Hendra pumpkin patch, with our Hendra grown pumpkins. Complete with our built onsite pumpkin entry!
We also had awesome Halloween shows, by our resident Super Star, Sacha. Fancy dress, spooky songs, and lots of freaky shapes on the dance floor!
Not forgetting our Firework Finale, which got lots of oohs and ahs! We definitely went out with a bang this season!
