Public Transport with a View: Explore Cornwall by Land and Sea

Perfect for couples, campers, and motorhome adventures at Hendra Holiday Park

Cornwall is all about slowing down, soaking up the scenery, and enjoying the journey just as much as the destination. Hendra has excellent options for motorhome owners, campers and caravanners, including our Pitch and Pause offer. This is an adults-only area, available on selected dates. Or try one of our holiday homes, with classic and premium homes available, as well as our Meadow Lodges.

For couples staying at Hendra Holiday Park, exploring Cornwall without a car is easier than you might think. With excellent public transport links right on our doorstep, you can travel by land and sea, enjoy breathtaking views, and leave the stress of driving behind.

A Relaxed Base for Grown‑Ups

Hendra is well known as a family-favourite holiday park, but it’s also a wonderfully calm base for couples seeking space, scenery and flexibility. Our Pitch and Pause adults-only camping and touring area is designed especially for guests aged 18+. The area offers a quieter corner of the park  on selected dates. Hendra Holiday Park’s award-winning grounds are tended to and cared for by our dedicated Grounds Team. Enjoy being surrounded by different types of trees, shrubs, plants and flowers: Hendra Holiday Park is the best place to reconnect with nature and each other.

You will also find a range of accommodation to choose from, whether you are looking for a base, with all of your home comforts, or something more luxurious such as our premium range holiday homes or, for a real treat, the Meadow Lodges in the Meadow Retreat.

Easy Travel from the Park

One of the greatest perks of staying at Hendra is how well connected it is. Buses stop right outside the park, making it simple to head into Newquay, coastal villages, and beyond without the hassle of parking.

Newquay’s main bus and train stations open up even more of Cornwall, from charming harbour towns to dramatic stretches of coastline – all while you sit back and enjoy the view rather than the road.

This is ideal if you are travelling with a large motorhome, as you do not have to navigate Cornwall’s narrower roads.

Coastal Adventures by Boat

For something a little different, Cornwall’s ferry routes add a touch of adventure to any trip. From Newquay, it’s easy to plan days out that include boat trips along the coast or across estuaries – perfect for couples looking to experience Cornwall from a fresh perspective. From Newquay’s harbour you can choose different boat trips and spot dolphins, seals and a range of sea life.

Head to the nearby town of Padstow, known for its foodie scene, picturesque harbour, and views of the Camel Estuary. Take a boat trip to Rock from here and enjoy the beautiful views.

Cycle, Walk, Wander

For guests who love to explore actively, Cornwall’s one of the best places to explore on foot. With coastal walks galore, and near Hendra Holiday Park, you are spoilt for choice. Nearby there is the Gannel Estuary, a must for bird-watchers, and, when the tide’s out you can walk across to the expansive Crantock Beach.

There are also walks around the coast path to Fistral Beach and the harbour. Spot Newquay’s old Coastguard hut and Huer’s Hut; the Huer’s Hut has history dating back to the 14th century.

Not forgetting, Trevelgue Head, known locally as Porth Island. A Bronze Age settlement, this headland has views over to Newquay and Watergate. Follow the coast path to Watergate for jaw-dropping sea views that seem to go on forever.

For cycling, head over to Padstow again, where you can cycle on a car-free route, the Camel Trail. This mostly flat trail from Wadebridge is known for good views. You can hire bikes here.

Outside of Hendra, there is a Beryl Bike Bay.

Surfing and Paddleboarding

The sea is the biggest draw to Cornwall, whether you are taking in the views or being active and enjoying being in the water. Newquay is known for its good surf, so why not give surfing a go? Fistral Beach Surf School is an excellent choice for a lesson, whatever level you are at. Fistral Beach Surf School will help you to feel completely at ease, and you will soon realise why so many people get addicted to this super fun sport.

Or try kayaking or stand up paddleboarding. Hire is available at various locations in Cornwall.

Eat On Site

There’s no need to drive to eat with amazing food options right here at Hendra Holiday Park. From handcrafted, fresh pizza at The Beach House, to organic, Cornish ice cream and sundaes at Always Sundae. The Beach House has a selection of refreshing, on tap lagers, quality wines, and delicious cocktails.

Our Terrace Bar and Restaurant has you covered from morning to evening, with breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus barista coffee and sweet treats. Not forgetting our on park Fish and Chip takeaway, after all, nothing beats a portion of succulent fish, and steamy, salty chips.

Why Go Car‑Free?

Exploring Cornwall by public transport offers a slower, more relaxed way to travel. No worrying about narrow lanes, busy beaches or finding parking – just peaceful journeys, stunning views and more time to enjoy each other’s company.

It’s also a great option for motorhome and camping guests who prefer to park up once and travel light for the rest of their stay.

The Perfect Couples’ Escape

Whether you’re staying in a cosy holiday home, touring in your motorhome, camping under the stars, or enjoying the tranquility of Pitch and Pause, Hendra Holiday Park is the perfect place to switch off, reconnect and explore Cornwall in a more mindful way. We have some wonderful offers this spring and summer in our accommodation too.

Travel by bus, train, bike or boat – and discover that sometimes, the journey really is the best part of the holiday.
