Why visit Cornwall in 2024?

Beautiful Beaches

Our beaches are the reason that Cornwall is, quite rightly, well-known and loved! Cornwall boasts the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Offering jaw-dropping views, and a variety of opportunities to enjoy sports, such as surfing and sailing, as well as exploring the coast path, or making sandcastles and playing in the sand and sea.

Newquay itself, which is just outside of Hendra, boasts 7 beaches in total. Fistral beach is less than a 10 minute drive away from Hendra. Famous for surfing, Fistral has a long stretch of soft sand, with brilliant food available at Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips and The Fish House, great facilities, and shops. Soaking up Fistral’s unique buzz is a must. Fistral is the location of the surf and skate side of Boardmasters Festival in August: this is the beach to be.

Surfers will love SSS Surf School for lessons, located near the central and pretty Towan Beach. Friendly instructors will ensure that you have a fun time learning Newquay’s favourite sport.

If you want a quieter beach then there are others to choose from, including Lusty Glaze, a sheltered cove, with many facilities, or the expansive Porth beach.

The North Coast is easily explored, car free, by catching the bus, or Newquay Land Train, in to town, and catching the Atlantic Coastliner. The Atlantic Coastliner makes it’s way to Padstow, where you can stop off, and enjoy the various beaches on the way, including, Watergate, Mawgan Porth and Bedruthan Steps.

Historic Sites

Explore historical landmarks such as Tintagel Castle, St. Michael’s Mount, and the Minack Theatre. These places offer a fascinating glance in to Cornwall’s past, along with dramatic coastal views. The stories of these places will stay in your memory a long time after you leave for home.

Indulge in Cornwall’s food scene

A trip to Cornwall is not complete without eating these things: Cornish ice cream, Cornish fudge, and a Cornish pasty! Available in every town and village, Cornwall is not the place to be on a diet!

Cornwall also has lots of fabulous restaurants, which offer locally caught fish, and locally sourced ingredients. Many top chefs have chosen Cornwall to open their restaurants and offer fantastic food.

Cornwall’s Gardens

Cornwall’s sub-tropical climate means it is an absolute haven for gardens. There are so many beautiful gardens to visit and enjoy throughout the county. From the innovative Eden Project to the rediscovered Lost Gardens of Heligan, along with Trebah gardens, and Gledurgan as well as many more.

Cornish Villages and Towns

Our villages and towns are visited frequently, and for a good reason: they are gorgeous! They can be busy to, so do look in to getting there car free, as parking is often tricky. This is true particularly for the very popular St Ives, famous for being an inspiration to many artists, and home to The Tate Gallery.

Padstow, on the north coast, offers a great day out, with ample opportunities for enjoying Cornish food, as well as cycling the scenic Camel Trail. Fowey, on the south coast, offers a calmer coast view, and a charming town to explore and shop.

Family-Friendly Attractions in Cornwall

There are some excellent days out to be had in Cornwall which the whole family will enjoy. Newquay Zoo, is near by to us and offers a lovely day out with an array of animals, from lemurs, cute red pandas, monkeys, farm animals and many more. There are ample places to picnic, and outdoor play areas.

The Lobster Hatchery, in Padstow, offers a rare opportunity to see these fascinating creatures and learn about lobsters and marine conservation.

Bodmin Jail is a unique Cornwall attraction, offering a fun experience for older children, who can take a spooky self-guided tour through Cornwall’s dark past.
