Our Favourite Places to visit with younger children as a single parent in Cornwall

Beaches.

Our favourite beaches are Towan Beach, as it is easily accessible with a pushchair and you can visit with public transport. Newquay Harbour is always accessible and a nice place to visit with young children (it is a working harbour so some vehicles are accessing the harbour so please be aware of this with little ones).

We also love Porth Beach, which can be accessed via the Atlantic Coaster Porth has a stream for playing. There are toilets too, cafes, ice cream, a beach side pub and more.

Both beaches have lifeguards, please check the RNLI website for more information on times.

Explore.

The Atlantic Coaster really is a great option for single parents and those not wanting to use a car. Travelling up the coast, it is a good way to see the scenery. Padstow is a picturesque town, with the Lobster Hatchery, recently named the Best Family Attraction in Cornwall, by Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024.

Other great attractions for young children and single parents include Lappa Valley, perfect for train lovers, with lots of outdoor play, multi-story soft play, and ample parking, and just 5 miles from Hendra.

Newquay Zoo is also a brilliant attraction, easily accessible, located just minutes from us near Trenance Gardens. You can get the Newquay Land Train here from Hendra at 9.15am and play at Trenace Park until the Zoo opens at 10am. There’s a variety of animals, from monkeys, red pandas, tropical house, and play areas. Be sure to check-out Trenance Gardens too with beautiful scenery, duck pond, cafes, mini railway and park.

  • Can I reach Hendra by public transport?

    Yes!

There are connections all over Cornwall, with scenic views of the countryside and the coast! It’s a great option for a leisurely trip around the county.

Newquay Bus Station is just 2 miles from Hendra Holiday Park, with regular connecting buses into Newquay town and across Cornwall. We also have a bus stop right outside the entrance of Hendra with connections all over Newquay and beyond.

There is a bus stop outside of the airport that takes you into Newquay town (Newquay Bus Station) where you can transfer to Hendra. You can also catch a taxi straight from the airport to Hendra.

  • Where can I get food from?

We have a shop on Park for essentials, along with on park eateries. Also, less than a 5 minute drive or a 15 to 20 minute walk from us is a Morrisons and a Lidl  (if driving go left out of here, over the roundabout, and then right at the roundabout, Morrisons and Lidl are on the left. Walking is a bit more tricky with the roundabout. Ask Reception for details.

You can get shopping delivered but you would have to go to the roundabout to get a delivery, the shop cannot be delivered directly to your holiday home or pitch. You can bring your car to put the shopping in. If staff are available to help, they may be able to take some of shopping down to the holiday home or pitch. Please ask Reception.

  • Can I camp as a single parent?

Of course! Camping is a lovely way to spend time together, and also affordable. Sometimes putting a tent up can be tricky if you haven’t done it much or ever, but if you practice before hand, then you should be fine! Our camping pitches are all close to toilet and shower blocks. Check with the Booking’s Team if you are worried about location.

  • When is the best time to book?

We advise booking in advance, as this can be a good way to spread the cost, but we also have last minute and special offers on throughout the season.

  • Can I pay my holiday in installments?

Yes you can! This is a great way to spread the cost. We ask that balances are paid in full 10 weeks prior to your stay with us. If you are struggling with payment, then please do call Bookings on 01637 875778.

  • Can I meet other single parent families on the Park?

Holidays are a great way for everyone to meet new friends. Why not join our Facebook Hendra Guest Group beforehand and see if any other families want to meet up before?

  • How safe is the Park?

Hendra is very safe with 24 hour security, as well as an out of hours phone line that you can call if you have any concerns whilst on the site (07967 852152). The Park is family owned too, and they are very much involved with the day-to-day running of the Park, which helps us to maintain the family holiday, safe feeling that makes Hendra special to many.
