Surfing

Surfing in Newquay has been going on for decades. It is the surfing capital of the UK and one of the many things that makes Newquay special.  Learning to surf, or trying, is one the top things to try in Cornwall. Fistral Beach Surf School is Fistral’s only surf school and offers top-class instructors and a range of lessons to choose from.

Surfing Events

Newquay is home to some of the UK’s biggest Surf Festivals and probably the biggest and best is Boardmasters, which takes place in August. Surfing events and competitions take place throughout the summer at Fistral, Watergate and Lusty Glaze beaches. Take to the waves yourself or watch the professional surfers in awe as they ride the waves at Fistral Beach!

Eat Out in Newquay…

Traditional Cornish Food

Enjoy a traditional Cornish pasty from one of the local bakeries, or stop for a delicious Cornish cream tea at one of the many cafes. Don’t forget to try Roskilly’s Organic, Cornish ice cream on the Park, at Always Sundae! Our favourite pasties are produced right next door to Hendra at Trevilley Farm Shop!

Eating out in the Local Area

Of course there are plenty of places to eat on the Park with our 4 eateries. If you fancy venturing further, then you can walk or drive to Nansleden, which is opposite Hendra. Nansleden has a great selection of places to eat and drink.

Newquay has excellent restaurants too; you will find everything from Thai, Indian, Chinese, Greek, Portuguese and Italian, to fresh fish restaurants and fish & chip takeaways, plus places to eat sushi and oysters or steak and chips! Or maybe you’ll stop off for a cocktail at one of Newquay’s cosy bars, perfect for a summer’s evening.

  • How do we get to Newquay from Hendra?

    There are lots of ways to get to Newquay from Hendra. The Newquay Land Train runs from Hendra at 9.15am each day, and returns from town at approximately 4pm each day. We are also on the bus route, which is just outside on the park and on the left if you walk out, and there’s a Park and Ride opposite us in the summer time. You can also drive or get a Beryl Bike from the Bay, just outside of Hendra.

  • What's the Parking like in the town?

    There are several car parks in the town, a mix of Council and private car parks, next to the beaches and throughout the town centre. They do get very busy in the summer and at this time of year we recommend using public transport when possible. Parking Apps to download include Ring Go and Just Park.

  • Do I have to restaurants?

    Again, in summer we do recommend that you do, and in general to avoid disappointment.

  • Which beaches are the best for in Newquay?

    All of them! Depending on your requirements and needs, there’s something for everyone. Check out our blog or our Welcome Magazine, which you get on check-in, for all of the information.

  • Are any of the beaches dog-friendly?

    Fistral Beach, Crantock Beach, Little Fistral, Harbour Beach, Towan Beach, Lusty Glaze, and Watergate Bay are dog-friendly all year around, with many others, such as Porth, allowing dogs at certain times.

  • What shops are there in Newquay?

    Newquay has a mix of shops and many bars and restaurants. These include surf shops, pharmacies, and gift shops. Like all high-streets, there isn’t as many chain shops as there used to be but there’s certainly a range of places worth browsing.
