Enjoy your holiday in Newquay, with this perfect day out plan!
There’s so much to do on your holiday in Cornwall, and Newquay, Cornwall and England’s surf capital, is no exception.
Choosing Hendra Holiday Park as your base while staying in Cornwall is a great location for exploring all of the Cornwall, especially the north coast. Just a mile and a half away from Newquay, Hendra Holiday Park is the best base to explore Newquay, with fantastic public transport connections. Here we have the Park and Ride, which runs until the end of August, along with being on the bus route and having the Newquay Land Train on the site, which drops Hendra residents in to town at 9.15am and drops them back at 4.15pm (approx, please check each service for details).
Here is our perfect day in Newquay.
Come and have a morning walk around Newquay!
When you arrive in to town, why not take a walk to Newquay’s iconic Fistral beach? This long beach is the perfect spot for soaking up the sun and watching the surf. There are ample places around the beach to enjoy a morning coffee, as well as surf shops and restaurants.
If you walk the coast path to Towan Headland, you will see Newquay’s old coastguard hut, painted white. Also on Towan Headland you will have great views across the Bay. Take it all in and breathe a long calm breath: it is a beautiful spot which you will love.
When you walk towards Towan Headland, you will find Little Fistral, a shingle beach, just next door to Fistral, which has a calmer feel to it.
You can continue to walk along the coast path here, where you will be able to see another iconic Newqauy Landmark: The Huer’s Hut.
The Hut dates back to perhaps as far as the 14th century. It is thought to had been a hermitage or lighthouse. The hut was home to the Huer in the 16th century. The Huer would look out for pilchards and call out when he saw them so that the boats could fish.
Make your way to Newquay harbour and see if you can spot a seal! The harbour is a bustling environment with fishing, locals and tourists and there’s places to get seafood, drinks, and ice cream.
An Afternoon in Newquay – take your pick of what to do next
Choose from a range of things to do from here. From the harbour you could do a boat trip, or walk to the beach next door to the harbour and take a surf lesson, with SSS Surf School.
In town you can go and enjoy the arcades; there are plenty to choose from! Newquay is home to so many shops, restaurants, bars and cafes to keep you busy too.
The Killacourt overlooks Towan Beach, and is a good spot for some lunch and enjoying the views. On the first Saturday of the month at the Killacourt there’s the Farmer’s Market: a hit with both locals and holidaymakers. There are also other free events on throughout the summer, with live music and pop up stalls. There’s also a range of permanent independent shops on here.
Further afield…
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the town and walk to The Gannel, a calm spot with plenty of wildlife. This tidal river leads to the sea at Crantock Beach.
Or visit Trenance Gardens, a beautiful collection of gardens, trees and a boating lake, along with cafes and a park.
Sunset in Newquay
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to places to watch the sunset. Take a look at some of our favourite spots in the town here.
Keeping to moving up the town, there’s the lovely Tolcarne Beach, great for exploring rock pools, and with a Bar and Cafe and Restaurant: this is the perfect place to watch the sun go down in the evening.
You can walk around and sit on the Barrowfields, and watch the sun go down with the expansive views of across the Atlantic. Further on there’s Lusty Glaze, a horseshoe cove, this sheltered and privately owned beach is a wonderful spot, complete again with a bar and restaurant.
Head over to Trevelgue Head, next door to Porth, and walk to the end for a jaw dropper of a sunset.
