Come and explore some of Cornwall’s most romantic beaches

Crantock Beach

Crantock beach is an expansive and beautiful beach, just outside of Newquay. It can be reached via the Gannel in Newquay, when the tide is out. The beach is ideal for a stroll and is surrounded by dunes. The Gannel river is popular with kayakers and stand up paddle boarders.

As well as being a great beach to visit, Crantock is the place of a hidden tragic love story of a young woman who got swept off to sea whilst riding her horse.  Her distraught lover carved a poem into a rock, in a cave on the beach, along with a portrait of his lost love and her horse: ‘Mar not my face but let me be. Secure in this lone cave by the sea. Let the wild waves around me roar. Kissing my lips for evermore’

This poem and carving of the anonymous woman is still visable today, and, although it is a sad story, it is a story of lasting love.

St Michael’s Mount

This tidal island is linked to the mainland town Marazion, by a man made causeway. The causeway is passable at low tide – perfect for a romantic stroll over to the Cornish Island.

There’s no better place to fall in love with the awesome scenery, and a bit more with each other.

Lusty Glaze

Located in Newquay, this horseshoe shaped cove is perfect for couples, with golden sands and blue sea. Lusty Glaze is also home to a restaurant and cafe. This is great for snuggling up whilst looking at the views. Also Lusty Glaze is a wedding venue, which makes it even more romantic.

Wild, vast, and full of legends, history and mystery! The Moors are a place for stories, fantasy, and drama: a recipe for a romance!

The wildness of the Moors brings up connotations with Gothic romances, such as Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights and Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca. Rebecca is set on the Cornish south coast, which is close by to the Moors.

by Adam Gibbard.

On the edge of the Moor sits the Jamacia Inn, which is shrouded in Cornish legends and myths. It is also the setting of  Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same name. In the past the Moors have been a dangerous place. For instance, travellers and smugglers would cross the rugged landscape and roll into the Jamaica Inn on a cold evening in need of lodging and refreshment. You can also get refreshment here today, next to the open fire.

Bodmin Moor will certainly make for an interesting trip, with its myths, Gothic feel and wild romance: a perfect recipe for a couples holiday in Cornwall!
