Spring along the clifftops

Spring in Cornwall is endlessly beautiful, arriving sooner than the rest of the country. Daffodils arrive early, due to the mild climate and can be seen along the South West Coast Path. From April until July, the already dreamy coastline, looks even more romantic with the pink cushion of sea thrifts. Also known as sea pinks, this hardy coastal wildflower thrives all around the Cornish coast. A picnic, on the coastline, amongst the sea pinks and seascape, is the romance in Cornwall at its finest.

Also spot the lilac spring squill, and white sea campion, on Cornwall’s clifftops.

Walking through a Cornish Garden

Cornwall is famed for its gardens, with its mild, maritime climate, flowers and plants thrive. There are many exotic plants which can be found in Cornwall’s gardens throughout the year. Spring is full of colour, and visiting a Cornish garden is a must.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan are one of Cornwall’s most well-known and loved gardens. Hidden for many years, the garden was brought back to life in the mid-nineties, and has thrived ever since.

In the spring, the garden awakens across its 200 acres. First expect to see the magnolias, a pale pink teacup flower, which can be seen until the end of March. Back in 2008, something rather special happened at The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Plant Heritage recognised the garden’s treasure trove of pre‑1920 Camellias and Rhododendrons, honouring Heligan as a National Collection Holder. These can be enjoyed in Heligan’s ornamental gardens, with its elegant grass lawns, surrounded by a colourful swathes of mauve, fuchsia, scarlet, and pink. These can be seen from late March and throughout April.

Also in April, there’s wild garlic and in May, carpets of pretty bluebells. Strolling around, hand-in-hand, Heligan is the best place to stay present and enjoy nature, and each other’s company.

Fish and Chips by a Cornwall Harbour, and other Cornwall culinary delights

Cornwall is home to many a picture-perfect fishing town and village, all offering Cornwall’s tempting food staples. From pasties, indulgent Cornish ice cream, made from clotted cream, Cornish fudge and, seaside favourite, a steamy portion of fish and chips: irresistible.

Padstow, not too far from Hendra Holiday Park, is one of Cornwall’s most famed towns for food and scenery. Famed for its association with celebrity chef Rick Stein, Padstow is home to many top-rated restaurants, from Rick Stein’s various offerings, as well as Nathan Outlaw. Padstow offers boat trips across to Rock, known as Cornwall’s St Tropez.

The Camel Trail is famed for its white sand and azure blue sea. Enjoy views across the estuary, while cycling down the trail from Wadebridge. You could even ride a tandem, if you fancy it! Whatever you choose to eat in Padstow, it will be well-deserved after your bike ride, before you cycle back to Wadebridge.

Newquay also has a lovely harbour, perfect for watching the fishing boats and seal-spotting. Here you will find pop-up street food to sample together.

Spring Sunsets in Cornwall

We all will welcome the long days after winter, and there’s no better way to enjoy them than on a Cornish beach, enjoying the sunset. Romantic spots near by include, Pentire Headland, which overlooks Crantock and Fistral. Afterwards enjoy sea views at the near by pub. Also, Lusty Glaze, one of Newquay’s most romantic beaches. This horseshoe shaped cove, is sheltered by high cliffs. If it gets chilly you can sit in the bar and restaurant, cosy up and watch the sunset.

Couples also love Trevelgue Head, known locally as Porth Island. With panoramic views across Newquay Bay and over to Watergate Bay. Snuggle up on this cliff top and watch the sun dip into the sea.
