Brand-new, year-round activity centre coming to Newquay in spring 2026
A new year-round activity centre is set to open in spring 2026, at Hendra Holiday Park. Newquay Rocks Family Activity Centre is a multi-million pound investment, and has received part funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The facility will be on the Hendra Holiday Park site, with facilities to include a new year-round and wet-weather activity centre, accommodating a family climbing facility, soft play, gym and community event space.
This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council is responsible for managing projects funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme.
Hendra Holiday Park (HHP), a long-established family business in Newquay, is embarking on this strategic development to extend its trading season, diversify income, create high-quality jobs, and deliver lasting community benefits. At the heart of the project is the Newquay Rocks Family Activity Centre. This will be supported by essential infrastructure upgrades including improved parking, lighting, security, weather resilience, and energy efficiency, enabling core facilities — including the Oasis Fun Pool — to operate beyond the current seasonal window.
The facility will also be used as a new community space for Scouts Cornwall, James McIntyre, lead volunteer of Scouts Cornwall, said:
“Scouts Cornwall are so happy be working with Hendra Holiday Park with this new, exciting development. We are hopeful that with the creation of this new space, and recruitment of new adult volunteers, we will be able to start a 3rd Scout Group in the wider Newquay area, when the building project is complete in spring 2026. We would like to thank Hendra for their ongoing community support and giving us this potential opportunity.”
The Group Finance Director of Hendra Holiday Park, Will Dexter, said: “The project is set to create new full-time jobs, upskill staff, and boost the local economy by up to £5 million annually. By extending the trading season, it will address employment and visitor fluctuations while maintaining a sustainable approach. Designed with low-carbon principles, the development aligns with environmental priorities and supports responsible long-term growth for both the business and the community.
“Crucially, the project helps reduce seasonal dependency and pressure on summer tourism without increasing peak visitor numbers. It offers attractive off-peak activities and provides the local community with year-round access to affordable, safe leisure options. Facilities will support youth groups — including a new Scout group — and host family-friendly activities in a multiuse venue.”
Powered by HHP’s existing 1.5MW solar farm and 400kW biomass system, the development reflects the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Good Growth Investment Plan’s vision for sustainable, inclusive tourism. This initiative offers a high-value, low-impact solution to regional seasonality, delivering economic resilience, social benefit, and environmental responsibility.
HHP has committed to deliver a biodiversity net gain with the project, to include new landscaped features and habitat areas. Hendra have also committed to achieve net zero by 2050 and this new facility will be included within their business carbon reduction plan.
