We love Cornwall in October so much. Don’t get us wrong, we love it in the summer months too but autumn in Cornwall is a time of great change and calmness. The summer fades and the leaves fall, the days get shorter, and the mornings have that autumnal cold snap in the air.
Autumn and October is one of the best times to visit Cornwall, as there’s still a lot of daylight hours so you can enjoy the days, the sun is often shining, and there are less crowds, so you can find your little bit of Cornish heaven.
The weather is often sunny in autumn and Cornwall is a lot quieter, and the beaches have a brilliant serene and still feeling to them. There are plenty of beaches near Hendra to explore. Newquay is less than 2 miles from the Park and has 7 beaches to enjoy. Also, nearby is the expansive Crantock beach and Holywell and further along the north coast Watergate Bay. There’s many a beach-side café or pub to cosy up in nearby too.
Lots of the gardens in Cornwall are still in bloom in October and they often have great seasonal displays of pumpkins and squashes along with seasonal activities like food festivals and Halloween fun.
This October there are lots of food and drink festivals, with Falmouth Oyster Festival on the 11th – 14th of October, the Eden Beer Festival on the 6th, with gourmet food available too, and Falmouth Beer Festival on the 4th-6th of October. There is no need to go to Germany for Oktober Fest: there’s Oktober Fest Cornwall in Truro on the 5th – 6th with 2 pint stein glasses, Bavarian Oompah band, and German street food.
Getting cosy in a Cornish pub
One of the best things about going for a walk when it is a bit chilly is cosying up by the fireside in a nearby pub. Our favourite cosy pubs with fires include The Mermaid, next to Porth Beach, and The Smugglers’ Den in near Cubert.
Halloween is more and more celebrated each year, and we love it! Almost every attraction in Cornwall has something on over the October half-terms . Including the awesome Zombie Walk in Newquay on October the 27th. We have heaps of Spooktacular events going on at Hendra too.
