And what a blast we had! After all, you only turn 50 once!
We closed on Monday, marking the end of our 50th season. It has been a wonderful season, and we have had a fantastic time celebrating with you all.
We have enjoyed giving guests something back, with our fantastic prize giveaways throughout the season.
To mark our special birthday, and 50 years of family holidays, we welcomed the Hendra 50th Fountain. It was placed on our flower-filled roundabout and we loved seeing your photos with the fountain.
Hendra also got some special merchandise to celebrate our momentous year. Our famous Hendra palm tree featured in the form of key rings, window stickers, and car air fresheners. We also paired up with some tasty Cornish brands to create some Hendra treats, including Josh’s Sea Salt Milk Chocolate, Furniss’s Cornish Fairings, St Austell Brewery’s Pale Ale, and Tarquin’s Cornish Gin in Blood Orange.
Spring at Hendra
When we opened at Easter, we had some beautiful spring weather. We got into the Easter mood with Easter arts and crafts, entertainment and of course Easter egg hunts!
We then enjoyed the now late Queen Elizabeth’s II Platinum Jubilee and the long bank holiday sunshine, celebrating her 70 years of service to the United Kingdom. Hendra guests commemorated with parties around the Park, and the Entertainment Team putting on Jubilee themed activities. Pimms was on sale in bars, to celebrate the Jubilee in style! Hendra was even the main feature on BBC Spotlight, where our celebrations were televised.
Summer at Hendra
Next, we had a very special visitor, which Henry and Henrietta are still excited about now! Peppa Pig! She came in early July and joined us for entertainment and a meet and greet at The Venue.
Next up, we had our very memorable summer, with some of the hottest weather on record over July and August. We had a fantastic time with a range of entertainment, from the acoustic acts at The Deck Bar, perfect for those balmy summer evenings, and all the razzle dazzle and fun at The Venue. Not forgetting the weekly fireworks! Kids were, of course, well catered for with Dance Academy, Nerf Wars, Nature Explorers, Pirate Hunts and more.
Autumn at Hendra
We, like the rest of the country, were all very sad to hear of Queen Elizabeth’s II passing on the 8th of September. The funeral was televised in The Venue on the 19th of September.
The season was coming to end, but there was still plenty of events on during late September including Dino Mania, on the 17th and 18th, where guests were treated to dinosaur themed arts and crafts, followed by a life-sized dinosaur show.
The annual Newquay Beer Festival took place too, a charity event, which hosted an array of the region’s best beers, with live music.
Most recently we hosted our season finale: a half-term Halloween spooktacular, complete with pumpkin patch and carving, Halloween arts and crafts, and the famous Hendra Ghost Train! There were frights, screams and lots of laughter. On the last Friday of the season there was a firework finale!
We closed the Hendra gates on Monday the 31st, until we re-open on the 24th of March 2023.
Check our social media pages and website for all the news and updates for 2023.
Thank you to all of you, our fantastic guests, who keep us inspired to make the Hendra experience the best it can be! We look forward to seeing you in 2023!
