Surfing in Newquay has been going on for decades, but in the last 10 years its popularity has escalated!
The many sandy beaches are noted worldwide for their great surfing. Events and competitions take place throughout the summer at Fistral, Watergate and Lusty Glaze beaches.

For those whose enjoyment is watching surfing, all the beaches offer soft, golden sand, so bring along your towel and be part of the action without getting your feet wet! Take the family to Tolcarne, Great Western or Towan beach for bodyboarding, sand castle building and rockpool exploration. The town is crammed with surf boutiques, gift shops, and most of the national high street stores.
Enjoy a traditional Cornish pasty from one of the local bakeries, or stop for a delicious Cornish cream tea at one of the many cafés. Newquay has excellent restaurants too, you will find everything from Thai, Indian, Chinese, Greek, and Italian. From fresh fish restaurants to fish & chip takeaways, places to eat sushi and oysters or steak and chips! Newquay is home to one of Jamie Oliver's 'Fifteen' restaurants at Watergate Bay.

Harbour Beach - A working harbour where you can watch the fishermen bring back the catch. Limited parking, food, good toilets.
Towan Beach - Right in the centre of town. Beach huts, limited parking, food.
Great Western Beach - Surfing, caves and rock pools. Good toilets.
Tolcarne Beach - Surfing, caves, rock pools, beach huts, organic food, award winning toilets.
Lusty Glaze - Surfing, rock pools, beach activities. Parking, good food, good toilets.
Porth Beach - Parking on beach, food, good toilets.
Whipsiderry Beach - Caves. No facilities.
Crantock Beach - Sand dunes, rock pools and caves. Parking, toilets.
Polly Joke - Caves and rock pools. Parking ½ mile inland. No road access, no facilities.
Holywell Bay - James Bond was filmed here. Sand dunes. Parking.
Watergate Bay - Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant is open here. Parking, good food, good toilets. Make sure you know the tide times if exploring rock pools and caves! - Boardmasters Surf Festival 4th to 8th August.
