What do guests and the press think about Hendra?

AndyK (Trip Advisor July 2010): Following returning from a weeks holiday last Saturday (26th June 2010) in one of the new Watergate vans and I would like to take this opportunity to say that you very, very much to everyone at Hendra for such a fantastic holiday. We stayed at Hendra in 2009 in a Whipsiderry van which we thought was excellent, however when booking into the Watergate van this year we were blown away. These new vans are a different class with the standard rivalling many top hotels which I have stayed in. With a large living area, a fully equipped kitchen and fantastic bathroom (the shower was lovely) along with spacious bedrooms with plenty of storage space these caravans are perfect for large families or people who like to spread out a little. On top of that the greeting we received from the office staff on arrival was excellent and the park grounds seemed to be better maintained than the previous year (we did not think it was possible and the ground staff should be commended for their hard work in making this happen). The park was in an ideal location with a bus stop just outside the gate with buses running to and from Newquay every 20 mins - at £2.20 per adult return what more can you ask for (parking in Newquay is a nightmare so this service was excellent). All in all this is a 5 star park and we will definitely be back next year for what is sure to be our third fantastic holiday at Hendra.
Lisabrad2909 (Trip Advisor July 2010): Just come back from holiday at hendra holiday park. Really good place. Me and my husband haven't been in a caravan on hols for the past 14 years so slightly worried but went with family who have stayed there before. The caravan was lovely we stayed in a fistral van for up to six . They are lovely and clean and the site is really well set out. There is a morrisons that is a spit away and we used that all the time. If you are going to be using the entertainment the club is good and well worth trying. You are not far from newquay and you could even walk if you feel like it it takes about half an hour and is really not to far. Overall had a nice time and would return again. ps the weather was lovely and the beaches are as good as going abroad.
Steve Brook (Information Britain): Excellent site. Couldn't fault staff on any front. Good, varied entertainment. My four children, aged 7 to 10 years, have been to several parks across the UK previously but the package provided by Hendra put it head and shoulders above others. Will definitely be returning next year.
Joanne Plumpton (Information Britain): Just returned from Newquay and wishing i were back! We all had a brill time staying at Hendra the facilities are excellent, the showers lovely and hot and spotlessly clean. Kids loved every minute and everyone was really friendly, there is plenty to do on the camp and out and about, we all enjoyed scott mays daredevil show which was a 10 min walk from camp. Also loved the fact that there was a morrisons just down the road very handy for hungry mouths! There is a shop on camp but only really used it for papers. Cant wait to book again will defo be going back, I,ve fell in love with Newquay lovely beaches lovely people everyday was packed with fun and enjoyment! Happy holiday people you'll love it x
Charlotte Auty (Information Britain): This was most definitely the best holiday I've ever been on. The pools were amazing, the nightlife was great, breakfasts at the tavern were gorgeous, the pizza bar was slow but the food was good once it came, the supermarket had everything, the caravan was spacious and the shower is better than the one we have at home! The weather was beautiful but even if it wasn't, Hendra would have provided tons to do for all ages, I'm incredibly glad I went and I would go again and again.
Angie Linford (Information Britain): I have just returned from Newquay after spending the best week ever on your holiday site. There were 13 of us in total age ranging from 1 year old to 62 year old. There was lots of entertainment for all the family, including live wrestling, which my son absolutely loved! I have returned home and highly reccommended your site to several friends some of whom dond drive, but I told them they dont need to as the public transport it fantastic! I will be returning next year as this was one of my best holidays in the UK ! Thanks to all the staff for their friendly approach and entertainment they are all fantastic!
tjim74776 (Trip Advisor June 2010): I had stayed in white acres, and the pool was fairly boring with children etc... SO i travelled here which was 5 mins down the road. Amazing swimming facilites indoor, great pool, fun slides I have gone back here for years and if am down that way, I will definately...Thanks Hendra :)
hellokittysleeps (Trip Advisor May 2010): Having booked the caravan thorugh the sun, we did go for the full upgrade, as I was travelling with some fussy people, however we were really pleased when we arrived. We stayed in one of the new Watergate vans, which was very clean and looked brand new (it should have been so that was a good start). The van was spacious and a good size for the 5 of us, having two toilets and a really big shower. Obvioulsy with all caravans doing a 360 turn in the twin bedrooms was almost impossible, but the beds were really comfortable and had no problems getting a good night sleep. As we didnt go in high season I was very please that the park wasnt at all noisy and we had a very plesent stay.
Barrel29 (Trip Advisor May 2010): We (two couples all in 20's) stayed at Hendra on the Sun paper holiday deal so there is no way I can complain about the cost and value for money! The caravan was decent, although it could be cold... Apart from that it was spacious, clean, tidy and accessible so no complaints there...
If you like Newquay then you can't go far wrong, its close to the centre and there's always a taxi waiting to take you in for £6 up to four people. I guess there is plenty to do for kids although we didn't have any with us...All in all everyone agreed that if you intend to use Hendra as a base to get out and about to see other places/do other things in Cornwall then you won't be disappointed for the money...
Surf_Pacha (Trip Advisor May 2010): We stayed at Hendra as part of a Sun short break during May Bank Holiday. Checking in was handled swiftly and efficiently. Although this is a large park it didn't take long to find our caravan which was clean and spacious. The caravans are set away from the entertainment complex ensuring a quiet location and no noise at night. The grounds were very well kept and tidy. The entertainment complex consists of an indoor and outdoor pool, pub, club house, amusement arcade, several childrens' play areas and a well stocked shop. Entertainment in the club was varied and of a good quality with acts encouraging the audience to join in. Staff were friendly and appeared motivated in ensuring guests had a good time. Newquay is a 10 minute drive and there is a bus stop directly outside the camp.
Simonjenjosh (UKcampsite.co.uk April 2010): Have just returned from a weekend away at Hendra Holiday park.
The site is very good with the pitch sizes being very big plenty of room for my Swift Challenger 520se, Awning and Car. The toilets are very clean as the site itself is spotless. My son enjoyed the park and the Arcade very much and we really didn't see him that often so coming to Hendra bring plenty of money as the kids eyes light up with the Arcade and the Bowling that was good value for money only being £2.00 a game, he really enjoyed the entertainment that was put on for the children with party dances and wrestling this made his weekend. The club room was very good size although it did get a little packed during the evening. The swimming pool is lovely and warm and has 3 water slides...All in all this is a lovely site.
XAlisonX (Trip Advisor April 2010): We had initially booked a sun midweek holiday but ended up extending this due to the lovely weather and we were there from the 11th to the 18th of April. The service was great from the reception staff to the friendly gate keeper. We had their most basic caravan and I couldn't fault it! It was spotlessly clean and close to all amenities. The park was also mantained to a high standard. There was an onsite shop, well stocked but expensive, but the local (huge) Morrisons was literally around the corner as well as a McDonalds to the kids delight!!! Buses stopped outside the park to take you to Newquay just a short journey away. We found ourselves going more to the gorgeous Perranporth beach which took about 10 minutes by car (7 miles).
The entertainment was reasonable, pretty much the same as a lot of simelar parks - some nights were better than others. The outdoor pool is very big and free.
Plymouth6 (Trip Advisor April 2010): We stayed on a very cold easter weekend but I cannot blame the park for the weather. The caravan was one of their cheapest... we had some problems but George the maintenence man was exellent instead of fixing things they straight away replaced them ( What good service). The pool is exellent nice and warm with great slides. We ate out at the site the food was surprisingly good. The evening entertainment was exellent and all the staff were friendy and went out of their way to help, a family business that have got it right well done.
Authortobe (Trip Advisor Oct 2009): I stayed at Hendra with my partner this July, and could not have asked for more for our short holiday break. The caravan was clean and quite spacious with lots of facilities at hand around the park. We particularly enjoyed the oasis fun pools, which we were expecting to be crammed full as it was peak season. Maybe we chose the right day to go but we found no queues and inside we were pleasantly surprised. I'm still recovering from the infamous red slide!!! We also enjoyed the evening entertainment in club bar, in particular the comedians. Ben Murphy, a local Cornish standup, was hilarious and had the whole audience in stiches. Barstaff were also very friendly. We chose Hendra mainly for its proximity to Newquay, and from a friend's recommendation. We weren't disappointed and would recommend Hendra to anyone. 5 stars!
Jay (Information Britain Jan 2010): FANTASTIC! what more can i say..... we came and stayed in summer 2008 and again in 2009 and we are now going to book for summer 2010!! plenty of entertainment for all ages - such a lovely part of the country, me and my children have been out and about every day to different places in the last two years we have stayed there and still have places we want to visit hence our planned return visit in 2010. we met a great family the last time we were there and still in contact with them now - this is such a family-oriantated holiday park........i even remember coming here when i was a kid and now im bringing my children here years later....highly recommended A*****
Bondy1980 (UKcampsite.co.uk): I have been to Hendra in a static caravan in June 2006, 2007, 2008 and am going again in October 2010. I go with several members of the family sometimes numbering 6 adults and 2 small children. The caravans themselves are very modern and clean right from the basic model upwards. The site is situated on a terraced hillside giving panoramic views of the Cornish countryside. There is usually ample parking for 2 vehicles right next to the caravans. I have used the toilet / shower facilities provided for campers ( as you would have to with 8 of you and one shower)There are many showers, toilets and wash facilities. All are new and clean. The showers are good and hot and also free...There is an indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor one is great in hot weather. The indoor one has 3 slides and various other bits and bobs. It does cost extra but is discounted if you are aguest on the site. It is open to everyone though and can get busy. The restaurant and bar on site are good, with good food and a wide selection of drinks. Again average price. Soft drinks are expensive though. The site itself is always very very clean and well maintained. The staff are helpful and friendly. I will keep going back and back to this site as it never gets boring and is so well positioned for so many activities in Cornwall. I can recommend the world of miniature, which is more than it sounds! Also the Cornish cyder farm is a great visit. The beaches close by, I would recommend Crantock bay at Newquay and the beach at Perranporth. Aside from the above, I have also noted that the camping pitches are well sized with good spacing between neighbouring units and plenty of room for awnings, windbreaks, vehicles etc. I cannot recommend this site highly enough. There are great incentives for return visits with regular offers of heavily discounted future holidays that can be as much as half the price of your first holiday. And these repeat every year :)
D. Williams: We stayed in a 'Fistral' 3 bed caravan which was new for 2008 and was very clean on our arrival. Space for two cars outside the caravan. Food in the tavern bar was good as was the pizza bar. Entertainment was excellent especially for the kids. Excellent swimming pools indoor and out. The staff were very helpful at all times.
Claire: We had a fabulous week camping there last August. Relaxing for us and enough action/opportunities to make friends for kids. The pitch was a decent size and the toilets, showers and washing up facilities were spotless.
D. Pile: Great indoor pool and good facilities. Plus Newquay is right on its door step. Lots of local attractions, towns, beaches and supermarkets. Easy to get to as well.
The T25 Adventure: I have been going to Hendra for a number of years camping and I have seen this site improve its facilities overtime. This year the camping section has had it's shower / toilet block improved this year, even to the inclusion of a baby bath which was very handy. for little Billy!
Anonymous: We stayed at Hendra in Newquay and it was the best site ever! 5 stars!
Anonymous: I used to live in Reading and visit Devon and Cornwall on caravan holidays. I now live in South Devon so I might know a thing or two about this. The best place I have ever been is Hendra Holiday park in Newquay, North Cornwall. Great location, close to Newquay town (which is a great place with some fantastic scenery) and other fantastic towns; Watergate Bay, Perranporth and Padstow. Quite a reasonable price I believe although the last time I went it cost £10 each with vouchers out of the local newspaper. Definitely worth a look.
Big L: If you are camping or staying in a caravan then I would recommend Hendra it is a great campsite and very very family orientated.
Jezzer: Hendra, located just outside Newquay, is a very family orientated site. A mixture of mobile homes and campsite. Has excellent facilities, including Oasis pool, restaurants and bar. Entertainment every night. We loved it. Kids loved it. Am returning again this year. Excellent Oasis swimming pool. Very disabled friendly. Close to local attractions, including Eden Project.
Busboy: Hendra gets our vote. No saxo boys screaming around at night. Great club house, close to town. Even stayed there on the cheapy £9.50 Sun paper deals. Happy days!
Gubean: We love it here at the Hendra Holiday Park. So clean, lots of entertainment. Pool is great. A must place to visit and stay. 10/10.
Anonymous: Have been to Hendra on many occasions and this site is fantastic. Ok nobody can control the weather and this summer was pants, but staff did all they could to help and gave out free groundsheets when pitches got muddy. Toilets have always been spotless and showers lovely and hot, but not easy to keep clean when people are in and out in muddy wellies! Kids entertainment fab, cabaret bar good but busy, but there again what do you expect at busy times. Marios pizza very reasonable and fantastic entertainment, Mike Norfolk is a legend. Newquay has loads on offer for all ages, town centre is about 25 min walk, £6 in a taxi or there is a bus stop right outside. Beaches are second to none. Harbour restaurant is fantastic as is The Meadery. All in all a five star holiday and will be going again next year... (have been 3 times this year).
Gillian Family: Just returned from a holiday in Cornwall and because of the awful weather everywhere we wanted to praise a park that made our holiday fabulous despite the rain and the mud - Hendra Park, our first visit there and what a great place! Although it rained and rained and rained we had a great time and we're glad we picked a park that had so much to offer and could clearly pull out all the stops when faced with conditions beyond their control! Lots of effort obviously put in by staff to minimise the impact of the weather, AND they stayed smiling even though we heard some campers blaming the park for the weather! We just got our wellies and umbrellas out and had fun! Amazing indoor pools complex, very busy but you'd expect this in a wet August! Good restaurant and takeaway, we didn't use the club but we liked the nearby pub and the local supermarket within walking distance. Our grandchildren loved the kids club and the train, and splashing about in pool too! Well done Hendra, we're already planning our return visit - rain or shine!
Donna: Brilliant place, there’s plenty of things to do for all ages! It was my 3rd time this year at staying at hendra holiday park and I can honestly say that is one of the best parks going. I am 15 years old and if you are of that age then trust me you'll love it. The best bit about the park to me is the night time entertainment is fab and late night discos are the best ;)
Marie Irving: We have just returned from a week at Hendra, we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the park the caravan we stayed in was really nice, the staff we met were very helpful. All in all a great week for myself, husband and two grandchildren. We are going to book for next year."
Louise Ford: A brilliant 10 day hol at Hendra with extended family. Two families had a top of the range caravan, superb, and three families had budget range. The premium ones where bigger with more things in them like duvets, and better heating but apart from that the budget ones where excellent with everything we needed! Everywhere is so clean and staff friendly. Our kids couldn't get enough of the kids club and the entertainment was great too, very funny comedian. Favourites was the indoor pools, couldn't get them out of there, the train and the club, and pizzas from the pizza cafe! Town and beaches very close, we loved Dairyland and the Zoo and Fistral beach surfing even though its was a bit cold! We've booked for next year and my sister has booked again for this July. Thoughly recommended park, fantastic value for money, genuinely family orientated (no groups of noisy singles!), and has everything you'd need.
Mumsnet: Close to Newquay and a big supermarket. There's lots to do with a fabulous DJ/entertertainer, Dean who kept everyone entertained all night. There's a train, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, play areas, soft play area, bowling, kids entertainers, Henry and Henrietta characters and lots of night-time games and music for the children and bingo. It's a very clean site."
Miss R.A. Foster: Me and my partner and 3 children have stayed here for the last 3yrs running. It has been the best holiday park we have ever been to, kids love it here. We try to go abroad every year but never happens! Kids just want to go back to Hendra all the time. Entertainment is fantastic, staff are all very friendly and place is clean and tidy with loads to do in and around park. We have done the camping bit and holiday homes from basic to top homes they are all clean and fully equipped. I would recommend this park to all familys with young children, they will love it and because your kids are having a good time, you parents will enjoy it just as much. Thanks Hendra and see you very soon. :)
Press:
Practical Caravan Top 100 Parks Award 2009: "Newquay, where Hendra Holiday Park is located, is known as the surf capital of Britain, but it's also a very popular place for family holidays. The town has plenty of shops, restaurants and gardens, which make it a great place to explore. Or your family could just relax on its safe, sandy beach. This stretch of the Cornish coast is a great place to get involved in outdoor activities. Learn to surf or abseil, spend a day coasteering, or find a quiet place to go fishing. There are also some good golf courses in the area.
If you tire of the attractions on the coast, head inland for a day. The Eden Project is within easy reach. After walking through the extraordinary bio-domes admiring the thousands of plants, from all around the world, you can join in storytelling and workshops. Or try Truro, which has Georgian houses, a triple-spired cathedral and a good museum on Cornwall's long history. All these activities, so close at hand, make Hendra a great base for family holidays. If you want to leave the car behind, you can catch a bus from outside the site into Newquay.
You won't need to leave the site to find entertainment though. Facilities on site include indoor and outdoor heated pools with flumes, outdoor play areas, Henry Hippo's children's club, a family arcade with Bowlingo and a club with great entertainment. Parents who want to relax will enjoy the pub, which overlooks the pool area. The on-site bars and restaurants all serve a good range of food and drink. The site has both grass and hard-standing pitches spread over 12 fields. Numerous water points are located among the pitches. There are also some fully serviced pitches. Dogs are not allowed on all pitches, so be sure to mention them when you book. The washrooms are centrally located and the hot showers are free. Washing-up facilities are also provided on site."
Out & About Magazine Award 2008: "Hendra have been voted overall park winner in the Out & About Magazine 'Celebrating Excellence' Awards in association with the Caravan Club, and winner of the Family Entertainment category! These Awards 'reward excellence in facilities, consistent hard work that ensures first-rate standards and all-round campsite superiority.' The judges said.....'Hendra, close to Newquay, is a holiday resort in itself, with the emphasis on catering for families. Entertainment from swimming pool complexes to several restaurants is at Hendra. And because the park is in such a huge setting, surrounded by gorgeous countryside, its appeal is also one of calm and tranquility' Well done Hendra, another well-deserved award for an outstanding park."
