It only seems like a few weeks ago that we were opening on March 31st, and now, as the cold weather sets in, it is the end of yet another fantastic season. This season has been full of new and exciting things at Hendra, along with annual events, and hot weather when we least expect it!
April saw some glorious weather, with lots of Bank Holidays over Easter and, who can forget, the Royal Wedding, which, even if you didn’t care about it, provided another Bank Holiday! May saw a few more Bank Holidays, and there was the Show and Shine car show, right by Hendra, at the end of the month. At the beginning of June we had the incredibly successful Hendra Family Campout with games galore, entertainment for the whole family and stories around the campfire. Later in June we had the Japanese Car Show, to raise money for the disasters in Japan, and later on in the month the Ford Car Show.
In July Hendra had the big switch on of a 10-acre solar farm called Sun Power Meadow, one of the first large-scale solar projects in UK, and, we believe, the first holiday park to have its own source of renewable energy! The summer holidays kicked off and we saw the arrival of the FloRider, an exhilarating water-based ride suitable for thrill-seekers of all ages. The FloRider proved a popular activity along with the Segways too, both offering discounts for Hendra residents. We had the arrival of our Smile for Hendra competition winners the Crome family, on July 23rd, who will be in the 2012 brochure and website. August was a busy month with the 30th Anniversary of Relentless Boardmasters. Hendra made the most of the summer with communal barbeques in the week, where you could bring your own food and drink Skinner’s beer. Hendra appointed a new director too, Jon Hyatt, firmly establishing the next generation of our family run park.
In September we had the annual Cornish Bluegrass Festival, and at the end of the month, into October, we had an unseasonal mini heat wave. In October there were great special offers, and our fun-packed Halloween half term week, with spooky games, pumpkin carving, the ghost train and fancy dress. Half term also saw the arrival of our other Smile for Hendra winners the Hill family, who will also be in our 2012 brochure and website. On Sunday we had our end of season party on the 30th of October, which was fantastic!
Here’s a taster of what’s in store next season: we have a brand new caravans coming called the Perrans. The Perrans are going to be the top of the range holiday homes with wall mounted flat screen TV’s and a facility to ‘dock’ music devices, plus en suite facilities, and the very latest in furnishing style. There are going to be more HendraPods, after the great success of this year’s HendraPod. For our younger guests there is going to be a play park that includes a skate and scooter ramp. Thank you to all of our guests that agreed to add a 20p donation onto the cost of your booking. It went to the Precious Lives Appeal, which is raising money to build a desperately needed children’s hospice in Cornwall. You have raised £1,462, so well done!
On the subject of thank you we would like to say a big thank you to all of our guests for making the 2011 season fantastic! We look forward to seeing you in 2012!
