We are all really excited at Hendra today as we have made the full transition and have become solar powered!
The 1.15 Megawatt facility is the one of the first large installations to go live in the UK and will provide 50% of Hendra’s power. Jon Hyatt, from Hendra, said: “Making use of solar energy has been part of the park’s sustainable business plan for some time and we are finally achieving one of our top priorities.”

This is a major milestone in Hendra’s history, as the park’s becoming more sustainable and lowering the impact on the environment. Jon said: “Our annual solar power generation profile fits perfectly with our seasonal demand profile: power production from the sun peaking in the height of summer, along with our occupancy.”
The solar park will produce the equivalent to 255 homes’ annual usage and save a massive 1,015 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year. Hendra was given the go ahead by Cornwall Council, on Thursday 30th of June, with agreed support from the Strategic Planning Committee members. One councillor described the proposed development as “an exemplary scheme” and another saying “very different” from all other commercial solar proposals they had seen in that it was for direct use by a business embedded in the local community for sustainable purpose. They also said that it was: “a model for the type of scheme that should be encouraged” and another said: “we would expect nothing less from Hendra Holiday Park – a true ‘green champion!”
