  • Hendra comes out top at Cornwall Sustainability Awards, 2011

Hendra has scooped the Overall Winner Award at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards 2011, held last Friday (December 9th), after also winning the Best Large Managed Company Award.

The Awards were held at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge. There were 200 people there to celebrate the work businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are doing to improve their sustainability.

Hendra was very pleased to win the award and Will Dexter, one of the directors, said: “This award presents a huge pat on the back to the whole team. We think what we are doing is right and it’s nice to know that it is recognised.”

This year Hendra has made great efforts to become more sustainable with our brand new solar farm, and conservation efforts.

The Event Organiser, Gitty Ankers MBE, from the Environment Agency said: “The judges were undivided in their decision of awarding the overall winner to Hendra Holiday Park.”

Jon Hyatt, also a director, said: “We are so happy to win an award for something that we are all so passionate about here at Hendra.”

What a great end to the year!

  • Hendra submits to the power of the sun!

    Friday July 8th 2011

We are all really excited at Hendra today as we have made the full transition and have become solar powered!

The 1.15 Megawatt facility is the one of the first large installations to go live in the UK and will provide 50% of Hendra’s power. Jon Hyatt, from Hendra, said: “Making use of solar energy has been part of the park’s sustainable business plan for some time and we are finally achieving one of our top priorities.”

This is a major milestone in Hendra’s history, as the park’s becoming more sustainable and lowering the impact on the environment. Jon said: “Our annual solar power generation profile fits perfectly with our seasonal demand profile: power production from the sun peaking in the height of summer, along with our occupancy.”

The solar park will produce the equivalent to 255 homes’ annual usage and save a massive 1,015 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year. Hendra was given the go ahead by Cornwall Council, on Thursday 30th of June, with agreed support from the Strategic Planning Committee members. One councillor described the proposed development as “an exemplary scheme” and another saying “very different” from all other commercial solar proposals they had seen in that it was for direct use by a business embedded in the local community for sustainable purpose. They also said that it was: “a model for the type of scheme that should be encouraged” and another said: “we would expect nothing less from Hendra Holiday Park – a true ‘green champion!”

  • Hendra Strikes Gold again with the David Bellamy Conservation Award

Hendra’s pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Gold David Bellamy Conservation award once again for 2010 and 2011.

The David Bellamy award is given to parks that work to maintain Britain’s natural environment. It is very important to us at Hendra to maintain the beautiful Cornish countryside around us, along with its wildlife. We have lots of wildlife on our park, which children can spot on our nature trial.

We are also committed to staying green and actively promoting recycling on the park amongst guests and staff, and we would like to thank our guests for recycling with Henry!

We are very keen to keep the park looking beautiful and up to a five-star standard. Hendra has recently planted more trees and increased the amount of hanging baskets and flowerbeds. Also, this year we have recycled tyre chippings in all of our play areas.

David Bellamy said: “Hendra is one of the stars of the scheme, so well done on keeping your standards so high.”

This year we plan to make Hendra even greener and we are sure that our wonderful guests will help us to make 2011 our greenest year yet!
