  • Hendra Appoints a New Director

Hendra Holiday Park has appointed a new director, firmly establishing the next generation of the family run park. Jon Hyatt, 26, is the son of the directors Bob and Janine Hyatt and the nephew of directors Robert and Rebecca May.

Jon went to the University of Oxford where he studied Chemistry and after going travelling for several months with his soon to be wife, Jodie, he returned to Cornwall in 2008. Rather than a career in the city he decided to come back to Cornwall: “I realised what a great place Cornwall was, and you can’t beat it, with dramatic scenery right on your doorstep it has so much to offer. Of course the opportunity to join the family business was fantastic and the main driver for returning. After three years in the business I certainly see my future here.”

    Jon Hyatt

Jon is especially interested in enhancing the park on a sustainable level and was closely involved in the latest project for creating Hendra’s Solar PV farm, named Sun Power Meadow: “Sun Power Meadow has been one of the park’s main priorities for a while and I was pleased when it was completed on time early last month. As Hendra’s new director I hope to be part of lots of new and innovative sustainability projects.”

Jon also said: “I am really looking forward to the new challenges and responsibilities in this new role, in what is a dynamic company with a great team behind it. In addition to specific development projects such as minimising our future energy costs I will also be taking an in depth look at the various aspects and operations of the business, so I will certainly be very busy!”

  • Smile for Hendra winners

Hendra met the winners of the Smile for Hendra competition, the Crome family from Paignton, Devon, in the first week of the summer holidays, which was a lovely sunny week. The competition ran at the beginning of the year to find models for the next Hendra brochure, and after sifting through many entries we couldn’t just pick one so we picked two! We will meet the other family in the October half term.

Shaun Crome, along with his wife, Emma, and two children Ella and George were all really surprised to win, Shaun said:  “We were all really excited about winning the competition as we love visiting Cornwall and we haven't won anything like this before.”

    The Crome family

The winners won a weeks’ holiday in our top-of-the-range Watergate holiday home: “We loved the holiday home and how quiet it was at night in the Meadow field. The children absolutely loved the Oasis Pool and can't wait until we can visit again.” The shoot involved many photos on site, including breakfast at the Tavern, photos in Oasis, in the accommodation and of course with the star of Hendra – Henry the Hippo!

Photos were also taken at Porth Island and Holywell Bay; both are near to Hendra with breath taking scenery. Shaun said: “Our favourite thing about the photo shoot was being taken to new locations that we had previously never visited, like Holywell Bay Beach and Porth. The best things about Newquay, and Cornwall, are the brilliant beaches, un-spoilt scenery and relaxed atmosphere everywhere you go.”

Sara Cross, who organised the competition and is Hendra’s Marketing Manager, said: “It was a pleasure to work with a family that were so relaxed and happy throughout the photos – as photo shoots can sometimes get a little tedious for the models!” The Crome family were put at ease by the photographers, Shaun said: “Adrian and Antonia were great and made us feel really relaxed and we hope it shows in the photos.”

Thank you to the Crome family!

  • Hendra summer loving!

We are having a great summer so far! The weather has been mostly dry and we had lots of sunshine last week! In keeping with the summer mood we are having a barbecue and surf camp every Monday and Thursday evening throughout the summer holidays. There will be a chance to eat some burgers, at our already set up communal barbecue (bring your own food) and catch some waves on the FlowRider. There are also picnic tables, prefect for a summer picnic, SkinDog Beer, and Indo Boards to go on, and it is on from 4pm – 8pm.

This summer we have some fabulous new acts in the Cabaret bar including an illusionist, a hypnotist, live bands in Hendra’s Pizzeria every night, comedians, a Hendra’s Got Talent Competition, and lots more!

We are having some great reviews on TripAdvisor, so it is good to know that our guests are having a great summer with us too. We love getting feedback, so please write us a review if you have stayed recently and a big thank you to everyone who has left one.

On the subject on our guests we are also getting more fans of the Hendra Facebook page every day! We now have almost 2500 fans, as we hit the 2000 mark a few months ago. This is great as we get the opportunity to post all our latest news and get your feedback. Hopefully by the end of the year we can reach the 3000 mark!

We can’t believe August is here already – time certainly does fly! We have some last minute deals left, so soak up summer with us at Hendra!
